The House of Khafre (affectionately called “da’ House”) is located at the epicenter of where Blues (America’s Root Music) was born, 103-105 Main Street, in historic downtown Indianola, Mississippi.
da' House Call to Artists
“da’ House” is an entrepreneurial venture by two local cultural arts veterans C.Sade Turnipseed and Robert L. Terrell. This dynamic duo comes to this venture with active involvements in international and Mississippi-based community development projects, i.e., Khafre, Inc. Turnipseed a well known cultural arts advocate is pursuing a Ph.D., in Public History. Robert Terrell, of Terrell and Associates has an undeniable passion and incomparable resources in the music recording industry. Together they are spearheading a cultural arts movement, in the Mississippi Delta… called “Delta Renaissance.”
“We are on a mission to bring a fresh energy and a homey vibe back to historic downtown Indianola, with arts and cultural performances. The name “KHAFRE” is important in African and world history. KHAFRE is the builder of the second pyramid in Egypt.” Turnipseed said. “This is significant because we believe with the help of others in Mississippi and the Delta communities, we shall build monumental projects that will last forever…kind of like the pyramids.” Terrell added.
The newest cultural arts gallery in the Mississippi Delta called the House of Khafre, also known as “da’ House,” will open its doors to the public tomorrow March 5th. Robert Terrell and Sade Turnipseed, owners of the establishment invite everyone to stop by anytime after noon this weekend, at 103 & 105 Main Street, to see, feel and taste the magic that is coming up in downtown Indianola. (Main Street is located in the historical district off Sunflower Ave and Front Street. From Hwy 82 either take Sunflower to Main then make a right; or Catchings Ave to Front St., and make the first left).
“da’ House is still under renovation, but we are sure everyone will be able to visualize the plans we have for the arts gallery, performance space and the future home of KHAFRE, Inc. (a non-profit organization that will erect historical monuments and youth-centered programs, in the Delta)” Terrell said.
“At da’ House, we are on a mission to bring fresh energy and a homey vibe to downtown Indianola. It will be done with educational programs and cultural arts performances…as well as freshly baked Mississippi-style teacakes.” Turnipseed revealed.
They are called “Mama Willie’s Teacakes.” tm
“These teacakes are the best cookies, I’ve ever put in my mouth,” proclaimed Mrs. B. Kirk, of Indianola.
Mama Willie’s Teacakes tm along with some of the best coffee in the country, African art display and its programming are positioning da’ House for major notoriety and success. As indicated by Blues legend David “Honeyboy” Edwards, who paid a visit to da’ House last week and said, “People will come from everywhere, for some of these teacakes and to visit this place.” Now, that’s a house blessing, for sure!
The name “KHAFRE” is important in African and world history. KHAFRE is the builder of the second pyramid in Egypt. “This is significant to us in the Delta, because with a little help from a few others, we shall build monumental projects that will last forever…kind of like the pyramids and David “Honeyboy” Edwards.” Turnipseed said.
Check out “da’ House, it is a perfect place for intimate gatherings and family events. So, stop by anytime…and bring some of your warm blessings with you…because, da’ House is where da’ love is!
